Eco Fabric

At SurfBalance by our using recycled polyester we are reducing our water consumption by 20%, energy consumption by 50% and CO2 emissions by 60%* (*Estimated data on recycled vs conventional polyester).

The recycled polyester we use can be recycled again and again and again, which is why this material is highly valued in the circular economy. The vast majority of the recycled polyester we use to make our garments is made out of recycled plastic water bottles.

These bottles are recycled using a mechanical process that transforms them from plastic waste headed for our rivers and oceans and turns them into flakes and pellets, which is then spun into high-quality yarn.

Depending on the garment type we predominately use 80-90% recycled polyester, should the garment need more stretch e.g. one of our recycled polyester rash vests, we will make up the other 10-20% with elastane

Removing ocean bound plastic

Ocean bound bottles are collected, cleaned and readied for processing.

Recycling

Collected plastic bottles are processed and turned into pellet form ready to be reused.

Fabric from waste

Pellets are then melted to produce a recycled polyester fibre, this is then turned into a fabric roll.

Our Mission

As a company we have a desire to give back by donating a share of our annual profits to charitable causes our goal over the next five years is to donate £100,000.

We also aim to fund the removal of 1.5 million pieces of ocean bound plastic over the next five years.
